Asperitas makes its kiln available for bisque and glaze firing, low and high temperature.
The kiln is a Rohde electric toploader, with internal measures of 45 cm of height and 40 cm of diameter. Consequently, these measures correspond to the maximum size of the piece that will enter the kiln, as a bigger piece wouldn’t fit inside it.
Every shelf is circular with a diameter of 35 cm.
Firing temperatures:
- Bisque: 950°C
- Low temperature glaze: 1020°C – 1080°C
- High temperature glaze: 1250°C
Attention: these are the temperatures that I normally use for my pieces, temperature may be adjusted to the request of the client.
Prices:
Bisque:
45 €
Low temperature glaze:
55 €
High temperature glaze:
75 €
Rules & norms of use
- Firing of single shelves will be taking place in a time frame ranging from 1 to 6 weeks, depending on the availability of the studio. Firing of an entire kiln will happen between 1 and 2 weeks.
- Glazed pieces MUST have a perfectly clean base, with no glaze residue and a clean foot of 3 mm upward in order to avoid drippings of glaze on the shelves. In case this condition isn’t satisfied, Asperitas will apply an extra charge of 35€ per hour for the labour involved in properly cleaning the pieces. If the pieces are not properly cleaned, Asperitas reserves the right to apply a surcharge of € 35 per hour for labor.
- If the pieces are covered entirely in glaze and need pins or tripods to be fired, it is necessary to inform the studio in advance.
- It is necessary to inform the studio about the firing requirements for both clay and glazes, to avoid any damage to the pieces and/or the kiln.
- Asperitas is not responsible and will not refund you for any damages to the pieces (cracks, bubbles, glaze melting down, change of shape and/or colour)
- In case of severe kiln or shelves damages (for example for explosions or glaze melting) the client will be required to compensate the studio for any reparation or replacement cost.
- The kiln is used only by the studio staff, clients are not involved in the loading or unloading of the kiln.
